HB Serial board

There are many microcontroller applications that need communication with a computer or other device.

Similarly, most of the new FLASH based microntrollers are programmed through the serial port or USB port of a PC.

The HB Serial board brings out the serial receive and transmit lines from the microcontroller and provide a simple RS232 interface via two resistors.

WHY WAS THIS INTERFACE DESIGNED?.

Many users are happy with the two serial resistors and a programming plug on the actual board. The challenge comes when there is an issue with communication with a USB port or the simple RS232 interface refuses to work. Another module is needed with a special RS232 translation chip.

This modular approach means that extra drivers, changes in circuitry etc can be handled with specific boards.


	This serial interface board duplicates the simple RS232 resistor interface and connects to the computer via a 3.5mm audio connector and DB9

HB Serial port interface

Thre following figure shows the standard RS232 interface from micros such as the PICAXE and ATMEL chips. The interface is not true RS232 but works on most systems.

A simple circuit board is shown in the adjoining figure.

Find the serial PCB from the hardware bag

Insert the 10K and 22K resistor from the resistor bag and solder the components.

Insert the 5 way header and 3,5mm audio connector in JP1 and J1 respectively and solder.
