Control Technology is an exciting area that links electronics to elements such as motors, switches, sensors, pneumatics. This area covers the exciting PICAXE resources electronics projects as well as specific Intellecta control products. Intellecta is a great prototype development area that gives students the opportunity to try their ideas in control. Linking systems with electronics is the domain of mechatronics. The Intellecta mechatronics kit is an ideal system to construct rugged computer controlled machines such as washing machines, door openers, train crossings, robot arms etc. Models are rugged and can take the stress of motors and even extra pneumatic components. |

Measurement is a very important learning attribute and these resources focus on science applications. Intellecta designs all the interfaces to have sensor inputs. This means it is easy to add a science measurement project with a control element. For example, you can measure the transmission of three leds through a solution by controlling the lights and using a light sensor. The Intellecta strategy is very easy to set up and students are involved in the experiment set up - different from canned software that shows the data.

A good percentage of modern Physics courses focus on Newtons Laws, their applications and running experiments. Intellecta has designed an integrated vehicle that measures distance, speed and acceleration. This data is then analysed as a record of the vehicle’s motion. The module complements the K’NEX Roller coaster kit and is a useful addition to the modern Physics classroom. Here the vehicle also records kinetic and potential energy. Typical curves show the sudden acceleration as the vehicle enters the loop, change in speed as it goes around the loop and the gradual deceleration around the track.

eloggers - starting off in science Many of our customers want a low cost multi-probe unit that can get students to use data loggers in a range of experiments. The elogger is our answer - 2 steel tubed temperature sensors and 2 light sensors enables students to run meaningful experiments. Furthermore, the system can run straight off the serial port and does not need any power connections. The software is simple and elegant. Just set up the max and min values for the temperature and light, select the sample rate. Press the start button and you are away. Data can be easily transported via the clipboard to Microsoft Excel and other packages..
