Assembly of HB 0 08M Box Header

Note: There are two 08M main boards.

One board has the programming audio connector on board and the other board has a box header.

The HB 08 08M board is the core of the HB series of education products. Other HB boards use different microcontrollers so that explains the HB 0 08M title.

This board uses the PICAXE 08M micorocontroller.

The assembly instructions define a sequence of installing components and soldering them. You may be proficient to load all the components and solder at the same time.

We have found this sequenced approach to be very useful because the sequence is in order of component heights.

Low components are installed and soldered and these means the components are pushed in place when the board is flipped on its back.




	This picture shows the use of the HB 1 board with the HB 0 MEGA8 control board. This is is a larger chip than the 08M and connections are provided that mimic the operation of the 08M and expansion pins bring out all the other connections.

Step 1. Solder connectors

1. Locate components. Go the hardware bag and locate the 10 pin box header, 8 pin ic socket and the 20 pin female socket.

2. Fit the components. Make sure that the notch in the ic socket is towards the top of the board as in the figure.

3. Solder into place.

Step 2. Solder diode

1. Locate components. Go the hardware semiconductor bag and locate the IN007 diode.

2. Fit the components. Make sure that the notch in the ic socket is towards the top of the board as in the figure.

3. Solder into place.

Step 3. Solder capacitors

1. Locate components. Go the capacitor bad and locate the two capacitors. C1 is a ceramic capacitor and C2 is an electrolytic capacitor with a + mark on the body.

2. Fit the components. Insert C1 into the location and C2 into the location making sure that the + mark on the body is closest to the component U1.

.2. Flip the board.

3. Solder into place.

Step 4. Solder regulator

1. Locate components. Go the hardware semiconductor bag and locate the linear regulator U3.

2. Fit the components. Insert the component into the three holes ensuring that the curved part of the body is towards JP2.

3. Solder into place.

Step 5. Solder Connectors

1. Locate components. Go the hardware and locate the screw terminal and the two pin header.

2. Fit the components.

3. Flip the board.

3. Solder into place.





	Step 6. Inspect board 3. Flip the board. Examine the underneath of the circuit board. 3. Solder into place.
