Electronics

This section covers the electronics resources supported by Intellecta. These materials address different level of student learning in primary, secondary and tertiary education.

The most popular materials are based on the PICAXE materials that provide an excellent foundation in programming, planning and thinking skills.

The Control board project is a special student project board where the student may design a controller board or a peripheral such as a sensor, colour light sensor, relay driver.

Small projects mean that student success is guaranteed with excellent learning outcomes.

Education Management in Electronics

A major issue is the management of various resources in this very important subject area.

Resources includes

  • basic teacher training,
  • teacher support with products,
  • teacher updates
  • advanced teacher training
  • student projects

Intellecta, with its major partnerships with Roland, Techsoft UK and Revolution Education has created a management plan based on encouraging electronics as part of the Design and Technology focus. This means that student projects are part of a larger design area and can be linked with the 5IT model.

The learning model encourages student hands-on activities with CAD/CAM, circuit design, circuit manufacture.

Electronics learning is based on a set of examples that develop programming, planniing skills in many areas. The Intellecta icons starts students thinking, the programming of tutorial boards expands this to BASIC language programming and the self design processes encourage specific student solutions. The motherboard is a central device that students add their own expansion or specific components.

Electronics and Microcontrollers

PICAXE microcontrollers

These devices from Revolution Education in the UK have truly changed how electronics is taught in schools. The powerful program language formed around BASIC or the flow chart programming mode, makes it very easy to have positive education outcomes with students. The programming interface is simple - two resistors and a cable and you can download the programs with ease.

The programming skills assist thinking and planning. Students can develop their own specific circuits using tools such as the Roland Stika’s and mills together with Techsoft PCB Design and Make. It is now possible that every student can design and program their own designs

Intellecta Technologies is an education reseller of these products and supports training and other initiatives. We have developed a range of classroom lesson plans and strategies.

ATMEL microcontrollers

Intellecta has been working with ATMEL microcontrollers for about 8 years and has developed many training resources. These devices can be programmed in many languages. The popular one is BASCOM that is a powerful BASIC environment with simulation and control of the real functions of the device - interrupts, watch dogs etc.

These devices are ideal extensions to many courses and are used by leading teachers in Australia and New Zealand.

ARM based microcontrollers

These devices are proving to be the current, popular microcontroller that are very fast and efficient. These resources are targeting tertiary departments.

The plan is to develop some core boards that can be built into student projects that are programmed in C.
