18X System - Getting started

The 18X system was developed with several schools as an ideal introduction to robotics and microcomputer programming.

The main microcontroller is the popular PICAXE 18X device and the board is targetted to motor control with DC motors and servo motors. 18X system uses standard screw terminals for motors and switches. Servos connect with the industrial standard three pin connector.

The expansion port uses special push-pull connectors that make it easy to connect sensors such as ldr’s and thermistors. The i2C expansion port is also available on this connector.

The system has a good selection of devices that introduce modern electronics : Voltage regulator, diode, electrolytic capacitors, tantalum capacitors, ceramic capacitors, transistor, integrated circuit, leds, transistor, infra red communication device, connectors, switch, expansion headers, programming port and resistors..

Note that:

M1+ is also SDA ( serial data for I2C)

Servo1 is also SCL ( serial clock for I2C).

IN2 is either a digital or analog input

IN1 is either a digital or analog input.
